Eggnog

This time of year brings about feelings of nostalgia for times gone past. This includes cravings or desires to indulge in the traditional foods we may have enjoyed as children. My husband, Doug, is Norwegian and Swedish and during the holidays speaks fondly of the Lefse (a Norwegian flatbread) his grandmother and mother used to make. Then there’s the traditional dish of Lutefisk they eat at Christmas (aged white fish and lye that is gelatinous in texture and smells something awful)! Today, I thought I share with you the recipe for Lutefisk….just kidding!! Hehe! 😉 Actually, I’m passing along to you my version of Eggnog. The holidays are the time of year when it’s tempting to overindulge in alcohol. It’s festive and tasty to celebrate with a cocktail or glass of wine…not to mention the relaxation that kicks in as we sip away when stress levels are traditionally higher. However, too much alcohol weakens the immune system leaving you susceptible to colds, flus and lower in vitality. It dehydrates the body resulting in headaches and what I like to call the “foggy and groggies”. While alcohol helps you fall asleep, it prevents you from slipping into a normal sleep cycle and causes night-waking. Is it really the middle of November?  I took a walk at dusk this evening and it was balmy.  I want to curl up next to the fire, read books, and sip hot chocolate.  Instead, I came home from my walk, opened the windows, and chopped some raw veggies. Alas…the cool weather will arrive.  I know it will. In the meantime, I am looking forward to my soul being nourished by the holiday season. Have you been busy? I have been busy.
